Do you need to have experience to attend camp?
It helps to have some Jiu Jitsu experience, but every camp we have had women start their BJJ journey there! This year we are doing an intro to BJJ session on Friday night to help minimize the feeling of being lost.
Do I have to be a competitor to attend camp?
Most certainly not! We have women of all skill levels with all sorts of different goals! How old do you have to be to attend the Next Gen Session?
Can I bring my family?
We encourage you to bring your family with you to Indianapolis! We will have a full list of things they can do while you are attending camp! We will not however permit anyone coming in to watch camp. We have to be respectful of all of our attendees and therefore will not be allowing men to watch camp. If you have a daughter that fits into our Next Gen age group, we would love for her to attend with you!
What is the Next Gen Track (8-14 yrs)
In 2020 we started our Next Gen track for young Roll Models with programming specifically designed for ages 8-14! We had 24 Next Gen Roll Models in attendance and they all loved it! Multiple young ladies asked if we could make camp a week long and didn’t want to leave! Our first 6 camps had a few Next Gen girls attend every year, typically attending with their moms. Camp can be a little overwhelming for our Next Gens, but the environment is such a positive one that we wanted to be able to include them more and to tailor training specifically to them! Now our Next Gens have their own separate training space with their own programming and will be permitted to join the women at various times throughout camp. We wanted to give them time to play and have fun, as well as learn jiu jitsu and bond with other girls their age. We want our Next Gen girls to see and be a part of the amazing women’s grappling community. Some of them may be the only girl in their BJJ class and we want them to see how many other girls share their passion.
Do I have to roll?
No. This is your journey and your camp! There will be plenty of time designated for rolling, but you don’t have to. Whether that’s because of an injury or comfort, you don’t have to roll if you don’t want to. I will say that this is a great opportunity to roll with other women, and I highly encourage you to take advantage of it if you can! If you are nervous, please grab one of the instructors, crew members, or line leaders! They will be happy to roll with you!
What if I don’t understand a move? Will a coach be able to help me with so many women on the mat?
In addition to our 4 main Black Belt instructors, we will also have multiple qualified assistant instructors/line leaders. This has worked wonderfully in the past! If you have a question about a move, they will be able to help you!
What do I need to bring to camp?
See our list of suggestions on the Helpful Tips Page.
What if I don’t have enough gis/rashguards/gear for camp?
There are laundry facilities onsite and there will be all kinds of gear on sale in our vendors room. You can also buy gear ahead of time in the Roll Model Shop or at camp from one of our vendors!
Will there be an opportunity for me to buy gear at camp?
Yes! We will have multiple vendors selling all sorts of gear! You have never seen so much women’s Jiu Jitsu stuff in one place!
Do I need to bring food to camp?
There is a restaurant onsite (open Friday and for breakfast) as well as others nearby. Several places deliver food to the hotel, especially through apps like Door Dash or GrubHub.Roll Model Camp is not allowed to provide any drinks or snacks that are not through the hotel. In other words, bringing snacks and drinks is an excellent idea.
How long does camp last? If I cannot attend the entire weekend, may I attend a portion of camp?
Camp will kick off on Friday with workshops and the Jiu Jitsu portion will start in the evening. We will go all day on Saturday and wrap up Sunday between 2:00 and 3:00. If you can only come to part of it, that’s okay! Come to as much as you can! If you come in late, just be sure to be quiet and respectful of the instructor that is teaching. Check out the Schedule Page for more information.
Is it okay to ask higher belts to roll?
Yes! Please by all means, ask anyone to roll! The higher belts will likely have a line, so make sure you take advantage of it!
Can I video record at camp?
This is typically a question for each individual instructor. As an overall rule, we say no, unless you are told otherwise. (With that said, some instructors may encourage you to record for your own personal use.) You can record yourself doing the moves on a partner for your own personal use. You may not record rolling.
My question is not addressed here. How can I contact you?
Email us at aj@RollModelsWanted.com if you have any additional questions.
How do I book my room at the hotel?
We will have a link to book your hotel room. Once we have it, we will post it!
Where can I get a rental car?
We are actually close enough to the airport that there is a shuttle from the airport to the hotel, assuming you arrive early enough in the day. If you still need a car, we have all of the major rental car companies. Connect with the ladies on the camp Facebook group and see if anyone wants to share rides or rental cars! That will help reduce your cost and already get you meeting new people!
Will there be laundry service at the hotel?
Yes! Coin operated laundry is available on site.
What airport should I fly into?
You will fly in the Indianapolis International Airport. If you have never used the IND airport before, I think you will find it is a very easy airport to navigate!
Can you help me find a Roommate?
We encourage you to connect in our Facebook group to find other camp attendees who may want to share a room!
